Xtrema Cookware Where to Buy

Xtrema makes ceramic cookware that’s oven-safe and nonstick without the harmful forever chemicals (PFAS) you find in most other pans. They’re a good choice for gas and electric stovetops (but not induction), and the company offers a variety of sizes of pots and pans, including deep skillets for frying chicken. They’re not quite as durable as cast iron or carbon steel pans, but they’re a lot better than most nonstick pans. Sign up for their newsletter for discounts and seasonal sales.

Unlike the “ceramic” nonstick cookware that you see on the internet from companies like Always Pan, GreenPan, and Caraway, Xtrema’s pans are made of pure ceramic. Most ceramic cookware is actually ceramic-like, but it has a metal base coated with natural sand-derived silicon using a process called sol-gel. This makes the surface bumpy so food doesn’t stick, but it also means that you need to use low to medium heat and plenty of oil.

In addition to being free of PFOA and PTFE, the company claims that their pans don’t leach dangerous metals like lead or cadmium. Their manufacturing process includes firing the ceramic at 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit, which removes all trace elements of metal from the ceramic. They also test every shipment for extractable lead, cadmium, and other heavy metals.

Despite being safer and more eco-friendly than most other pans, Xtrema cookware has some drawbacks that you should consider before purchasing. The company’s pans are prone to cracking, and they can shatter if dropped or exposed to thermal shock (such as putting it straight from the hot stovetop into cold water). They’re also less durable than stainless steel, cast iron, or carbon steel cookware.
