Korean Cooking Appliances Guide
Many Korean chefs are very familiar with the various types of cookware made in Korea. A large proportion of Korean cookware is made from cast iron. The most popular type of cookware made in Korea is the cast iron teapot which has been a mainstay in Korean cuisine for many years. Cast iron is considered by many to be the best type of cookware to cook with and is preferred over any other material including ceramic, clay, glass, porcelain and stainless steel cookware. Unfortunately due to the excessive popularity of this cookware it has had a detrimental affect on the price of this cookware.
Due to the increased demand for the cookware Korean manufacturers have increased the production of this cookware to try and counter the problem. Many new and improved designs of Korean cookware are now being produced. However as you would expect the price of these cookware has gone up dramatically. The main reason for the increase in price is the increased amount of craftsmanship that goes into making each piece of cookware. The heavier the cookware the more work it usually requires and the better quality of cookware made from cast iron the more expensive it tends to be. There is a wide range of cookware made in Korea, ranging from the traditional clay pots, soup bowls and frying pans all the way through to specially designed copper pots and woks.
The main benefit to purchasing cookware made in Korea is that they are usually cheaper than cookware manufactured elsewhere in the world. However they do not last as long as cookware made from other materials and have been known to chip over time. In addition stainless steel is a very popular choice for cookware in Korea. Another very popular choice is porcelain, although it is more expensive. A good indication as to why porcelain is so popular is because it is easy to clean and will not react with any acidic food. Porcelain is also cheap to ship and is lightweight making it great for people who are short on space but still want excellent cookware.
