There’s an inherent risk to cooking food in any pot or pan, but there are many options for healthy cookware that are safe for use. From nonstick to ceramic coated, stainless steel, or even clay, you can build a kitchen that meets your needs and supports your health goals while still serving up delicious meals.
If you’ve been avoiding Teflon and other chemical-laden coatings, it’s worth looking into a nonstick option that is free of those chemicals. The higher end lines of ceramic-coated nonstick cookware (as opposed to the inexpensive PTFE variety) are safe for low and medium heat, and can be used with wood or silicone utensils—though they should only be used in a well-ventilated area to avoid overheating and warping.
Stainless steel cookware is also nonstick without the chemicals, and can be used on any stovetop. It’s a great choice for cooking meat or seafood, and will not scratch, rust, or flake off like other metals can.
Xtrema is one of the few brands of stainless steel cookware that doesn’t contain aluminum or any synthetic coatings, and is one of my favorite choices for healthy cookware. Their range of stainless steel pans are suitable for one-pot recipes and braising, and can be used on any stovetop including induction. They’re oven safe to 450F, dishwasher safe and can be used on the grill. They’re also one of the most sustainable options, and a mechanical engineer designed them to be long-lasting so they can be passed down for generations.
