GreenLife is one of the leading cookware brands that promotes healthy cooking while caring for the planet. Using recycled materials and a non-toxic sand-derived ceramic nonstick coating, they aim to produce pots and pans for the conscious consumer. GreenLife offers several collections of kitchen essentials, each designed to meet the needs of different cooking styles and budgets.
Greenlife’s ceramic nonstick coating is called Thermolon, which is made from a sprayable material that is PFOA- and PFAS-free. It uses a less energy-intensive curing process than traditional PTFE-based nonstick and can withstand higher temperatures. GreenPan (GreenLife’s parent company) also offers Diamond Advanced and Minerals Pro versions of Thermolon that are reinforced for added durability.
Thermolon was the first commercially-available nonstick coating that didn’t use PTFE. PTFE is known to release fumes when heated, which can cause a temporary illness called Teflon flu in humans and may be unsafe for birds and other wildlife. GreenLife claims that Thermolon cookware is a safer alternative to PTFE, but doesn’t share any data or scientific research on this assertion.
GreenLife cookware heats evenly and quickly, with no hot or cold spots. However, it doesn’t retain heat as well as harder materials like cast iron or hard-anodized aluminum, so you’ll want to avoid using high-heat cooking methods on these pots and pans. Customer feedback is largely positive, but a few users have noted that the nonstick surface can degrade over time with regular use and requires careful handling to preserve its longevity.
